Voting in Logarpolls off to peaceful start

LOGAR (Pajhwok): Ballot process formally started at 7:00 am on Saturday throughout the country.
Long queues of voters are seen waiting for their turn in the Logar provinces.
According to IEC, around 12 million eligible voters would exercise their right to vote in 6,365 polling stations. At least 400,000 security personnel had been deployed to ensure stringent security measures for the ballot.
For the last several elections, 21 million people in the country obtained their voter cards, with four million of them obtained voter cards in this election.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Security forces killed six insurgents and wounded three others planning to mount attacks on a polling station in central Logar province on Saturday.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Three individuals planning bomb attacks during Saturday’s runoff election have been detained in central Logar province, a police official said on Friday.
Col. Sher Daud Zarin told Pajhwok Afghan News the detainees had been tasked with conducting bomb attacks in Khoshi and Mohammad Agha districts, as well as the provincial capital, Pul-i-Alam.
He said 35 landmines, a heavy machinegun and three Kalashnikov assault rifle had been seized from the trio. The landmines are being defused.  

 
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Losing provincial council candidates on Tuesday staged a protest in the capital of central Logar province, accusing the Independent Election Commission (IEC) of fraud in tallying votes.
Accompanied by their supporters, the candidates, whose names were missing from the list of winners in the preliminary results, protested in front of the IEC office in Pul-i-Alam.

 
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Director of women affairs in central Logar province on Monday demanded launching an inclusive awareness campaign to ensure greater participation of women in the presidential runoff vote.   
In her interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Shima Zargar said local tradition was a stumbling block hampering women folk from casting their vote in the election.
During the last elections, dozens of instances could be found in which male members did not allow their female to cast vote.
