PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials in central Logar province on Tuesday said ballot boxes were stuffed for some specific candidates on the Election Day in the province.
IEC head for Logar province, Abdul Rahman Mohabbat, told Pajhwok Afghan News that some Wolesi Jirga election candidates continued to interfere in their affairs and trying to get their fraudulent votes counted as genuine.
He did not name any candidate, but said: “I am under high pressure from candidates who are using use threats, bribe and force. Some of them have contacts with our election workers to make deals on fraudulent votes.”
He said he had prepared documents about the issue and he would soon share them with the IEC’s main office in Kabul.
Mohabbat added contracted workers, election observers and security officials in Charkh, Mohammad Agha and Baraki Barak districts of Logar stuffed ballot boxes in favor of some specific candidates.
On the other hand, some candidates accused their rivals of committing widespread fraud in the Oct 20 elections.
Sayed Farhad Akbari, a Wolesi Jirga candidate from Logar, said votes polled without biometric verification should not be counted.
“Some candidates who did not secure enough votes are trying to enter their fake votes into the system,” he said.
Nasratullah, another candidate, made similar complaint and asked the election commissions to separate genuine and fake votes.
Around 100,000 people have registered as voters in Logar but only 11,000 participated in the voting.
