Voting in Logarpolls off to peaceful start

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Members of the provincial council of central Logar have been on strike over the past two weeks to push for the removal of senior officials, including the acting governor.

They warned if the governor, the mayor and the police chief are not removed from their positions, they would continue their strike and keep doors of the provincial council office shut.

Provincial council head Hasibullah Stanikzai told Pajhwok Afghan News they had shut the council’s doors in protest and had stopped working over the past two weeks.

PUL-I-ALM (Pajhwok): A number of provincial council members of central Logar province on Wednesday threatened to boycott until some senior officials were removed from their positions.

Hasibullah Stanikzai, the provincial council head, flanked by four members, alleged Governor Niaz Muhammad Amiri, Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai, the police chief, and Mayor Ahmad Khan Ulfat of involvement in corruption.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Police detained six armed robbers from the house of a failing provincial candidate during a raid in the Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province on Monday.

Logar police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the raid was conducted in the Kutabkhel area early in the morning.

A six-member gang of armed robbers was detained with stolen goods from the house of Haji Shaukat Stanikzai, who contested the April 5 provincial council elections but his name was removed from the final list winners.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Three policemen were wounded on Sunday when a man lobbed a hand grenade into the gate of the governor’s house, where newly-elected provincial council (PC) members were taking oath in central Logar province, an official said.

The attacker was arrested after he tried to enter the governor’s house and disrupt the oath-taking ceremony, Logar police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News. The incident took place around 11.am.
