Voting in Logarpolls off to peaceful start

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Construction work on a new building for the university in central Logar province was on Thursday formally launched during a special ceremony held in this regard.
The foundation stone of the building was laid about two years ago, but since then the construction works had been suspended for unknown reasons.
But once again, provincial officials and lawmakers inaugurated construction works on the $3.7 million project on Thursday.

Logar province is located 65- kilometers to the south of capital Kabul. The Kabul province is situated to its north, Paktia to south, Nangarhar to east and MaidanWardakProvince is located to its west. A strip of Ghazni province touches Logar.  Pashtun, Tajik and Hazara tribes are living in the province.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A number of armed men posing themselves to be the members of Islamic State torched a shrine and stormed civilians’ homes and destroyed their television sets in Charkh district of central Logar province, an official said Saturday.
District chief Khalilullah Kamal told Pajhwok Afghan News that IS members put the shrine of widely regarded Khwaja Ali shrine on fire and then forced their way into residents’ houses to smash their television sets.
The armed men warned the residents not to watch television and stop visiting shrines, he added.

PUL-I-ALAM/KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday paid a surprise visit to central Logar province and terminated contracts with two foreign mining companies involved in extraction of chromite, the acting governor said.
Niaz Mohammad Amiri said the president arrived on an unannounced visit and inspected the Mes Aynak copper reservoirs. He said the president scrapped contracts with the two foreign firms, but he had no idea why.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The administrative chief for Charkh district in central Logar province on Tuesday accused a construction company of giving thousands of dollars to Taliban to let it implement a road.
Khalilullah Kamal said the company also offered work opportunities to insurgents on the ongoing 34-kilometre road project.
“We have investigated and confirmed that Bashir Ludin Construction Company provided cash and wages to Taliban in return for allowing construction work on the road,” he claimed.
