6 rebels eliminated, 3 wounded in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Security forces killed six insurgents and wounded three others planning to mount attacks on a polling station in central Logar province on Saturday.

Eng. Muhammad Rahim Amin, the Baraki Barak district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News Afghan the security forces fired artillery shells at the militants, leaving six of them dead and three wounded.
All polling centres had opened in the district, where no security incident had been reported yet, the district chief said.
Abdul Hamid Hamid, the administrative chief of Mohammad Agha district, said the election was underway in a peaceful environment. The voting was gaining momentum with time, he added.
Officials said the turnout seemed higher than the last round. Roughly 40,000 people cast their vote in the April 5 ballot. Six of 77 polling centres were closed in Logar province due to security concerns.
