PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): New buildings for teaching and administration purposes are being constructed on the university campus in central Logar province.
Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai and deputy higher education minister Gul Hassan Walizai on Monday inaugurated construction works on the 37 million afghani project.
Fidai said the structures would cost 37 million afghanis which had been provided by the Ministry of Counternarcotics under the Alternative Livelihood Programme.
The governor said the university currently lacked buildings for teaching and administration affairs.
“Our big enemy is ignorance. If we want to have an advanced society and compete with other nations, we have to give attention to education.”
The deputy counternarcotics minister said his ministry had been paying special attention to the Logar University.
“This university has enough space and that’s why we have approved four projects for the campus,” Walizai said.
He promised that the Higher Education Ministry would provide every needed facility to the university in a timely manner.
Speaking on the occasion, Wolesi Jirga member Sahib Khan quality work should be maintained during construction of the new structures.
About 120 students have been enrolled in the university’s chemistry, physics and biology departments and the number of students is expected to be increased to 500 next year, according to the university officials.
