KABUL (PAN): The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology on Saturday said technical aspects of launching the new computerised identity cards distribution had been completed, but the Meshrano Jirga was yet to approve the population census law.

KABUL (PAN): More than 10 political parties and dozens of civil society groups on Thursday announced entering an electoral alliance called “Association of National Amity of Afghanistan or ANAA”.
One of ANAA’s senior leaders, Mohammad Yasin Asim, who announced the formation, said the coalition involved 10 political groups and 110 social organisations.

 
KABUL (PAN): Nearly one million people have so far obtained voter registration cards for the April 5 presidential and provincial council elections as part of the second phase of the campaign, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced on Saturday.

 
KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai has said any attempt to delay or derail the 2014 presidential election is not in the country’s interest, his office said on Saturday.
Karzai made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Unity and Prosperity Council of Afghanistan and elders from northern and northeastern provinces at his office, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday signed a legislative decree, reserving one seat in the Wolesi Jirga -- or lower house of parliament -- for the Hindu and Sikh minority, his office said.
The decree was issued in accordance with the Article 79 of the constitution and the electoral law amended by the cabinet, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

KABUL (PAN): A meeting involving major political parties and statesmen discussed for a second day on Thursday in Kabul the formation of a grand electoral alliance, but is yet to reach a conclusion.
Last week, several other political parties, including opposition, announced a grand electoral alliance, but did not name any consensus presidential runner.
