KABUL (Pajhwok): British Ambassador to Afghanistan Sir Nicholas Kay on Saturday visited polling stations in the capital Kabul to meet voters, election staff and observers and see the electoral process in action, a statement from the British embassy in Kabul said.
“Today on election day I saw the will of the people to have their say in the future of Afghanistan. Men and women were lining up in large numbers to elect members of parliament who can help deliver more security and prosperity for their families and communities,” the statement quoted the British envoy as saying.
“I was pleased to meet officials from the election management bodies and observers representing candidates and civil society, who play an important role in the electoral process,” he said.
The United Kingdom (UK) and the international community would continue to support Afghanistan. “I hope that today’s election will be a step towards a better future for all Afghans,” he said.
