In 2005, Juma Zada joined the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), affiliated with the United States Chamber of Commerce, and worked there as program manager and then program director. From 2007 to 2010, Zada was a board member of Focus Humanitarian Assistance for Afghanistan (FOCUS), which is affiliated with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). After completing her degree, she returned to Afghanistan and participated in various political, social and cultural activities. In 2000, she joined the Hezb-e-Paiwand Milli Afghanistan to encourage women’s participation in politics and got involved with the youth activities. In 2007, the Central Council of the party appointed Naderi to be head of the Women’s Committee and Youth Association. Since then, she has successfully developed the organizational structure for the Economic, Cultural, Disciplinary and Sports Committees, weekly publication of the Party’s Youth Association, an educational center, the party Knowledge House, a scholarship for youth in higher education, and various sports clubs and music teams. 128- Muhammad Younus Qanooni

Muhammad Younus Qanooni is born in 1957 in Panjshir Province. He speaks Dari, Pashto, and to some extent English as well. Qanooni has a bachelor degree in theology from Kabul University in 1980.Qanooni is a prominent political figure in Afghanistan, affiliated with the former Northern Alliance, Hezb-e-Jamiat Islami Afghanistan and subsequently a splinter group, Hezb-e-Afghanistan Naveen. After the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, Qanooni joined the Mujahideen force led by Ahmad Shah Massoud. He later served as Interior Minister in Burhanuddin Rabbani's government. In 2001, Qanooni was chief negotiator for the Afghan Northern Alliance delegation to the Bonn Conference on Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban, Qanooni was appointed as the Interior Minister in the interim administration and then Education Minister in the transitional government. He was also a security advisor to interim President Hamid Karzai. Qanooni was elected in the 2005 Afghan Parliamentary elections and he was elected Speaker of the House in 2006 for the parliamentary five years term. Qanooni ran for president unsuccessfully in the 2004 election. He leads Hezb-e-Afghanistan Naveen.

Kubra Mustafawi is the daughter of Sayed Ahmad, and is born in 1968 in Jalrez District, Wardak Province. She speaks Dari, Arabic, and English. Mustafawi graduated from Zainab Kubra High School in Iran. She received her bachelor degree in Islamic and social education from Jamiat Ul-Mustafa University in Iran. Currently, she is studying her master degree in political science at Azad University in Iran. Mustafawi is the founder and head of the Afghanistan Cultural Organization established in 2002. She worked there until 2005. She has also been on the editorial committee of a magazine and has written several journal articles. Mustafawi was a teacher at the Cultural Organization of Afghanistan in Wardak Province, and a teacher in various schools in Kabul. From 2005, Mustafawi was an elected member of the Wardak provincial council, where she was selected to serve in the Meshrano Jirga for the 2005 term. Mustafawi is affiliated with Hezb-e-Ensejam Milli.

Shukria Barakzai is born in 1972 in Kabul. She speaks Pashto, Dari and English. Barakzai completed her early education in Kabul. She studied higher education at Kabul University in the 1990s, but was forced to leave during the war. She resumed her education after the fall of the Taliban. She has a bachelor degree in Archaeology and Geology from Kabul University in 2003. During the Taliban era, Barakzai ran underground schools for girls. In 2001, she founded and was Editor-in-Chief of Aina-e-Zan (Women’s Mirror), a national weekly newspaper. Barakzai has been a campaigner for women’s rights and a journalist. She has been the head of NGOs including the Afghan Women Journalist’s Association and the Asia Women’s Organization (AWO). Barakzai was elected to parliament in 2005 and she participated in the Constitutional Loya Jirga in 2003.

Sharifullah Kamawal is the son of Haji Kator, and is born in 1977 in Nangarhar Province. His mother language is though Pashto but is fluent in speaking Dari, English, and Urdu. Kamawal completed his secondary education at Omar High School in Jalalabad Province in 2007. He is currently a student of Law and Political Science at the Ariana University in Nangarhar Province. Kamawal has connections with civil society through his work with Afghan youth. He was the director of the Afghan Youth Social Movement, and also the director of the Youth Assembly for Afghanistan Rehabilitation (YAAR). Kamawal has served as deputy director to both the World Construction Company and the Afghanistan Rehabilitation Association (an NGO) as the deputy director. In addition, he worked with the Kaboora Foundation (KF) as an administration and finance officer as well as at the International Airport of Kabul in 2007 for a short period of time.

Mawlawi Erfanullah Erfan is born in 1971 in Farzah District, Kabul Province. He speaks Dari, Pashto, Arabic, and to some extent English as well. Erfan completed his 12th class in 1990 at a private Islamic Madrasa. He then enrolled at the Dawat Jahad University in Pakistan in 1990 and studied Islamic Fiqh (jurisprudence) and Law, graduating in 1994. Erfan was a university teacher at Kabul Medical University in 1995. He served as a teacher at the Imam Ghizali School in Pakistan for six years from 1996 to 2002, and then worked as a teacher at the Farza School in Kabul from 2002 to 2005. He also served as the head of a construction company before coming to the parliament. Erfan was elected to the Wolesi Jirga in 2005 and he is a religious conservative.

After finishing school, Atif joined the Mujahideen and served as a jihadi commander for Hezb-e-Jamiat Islami Afghanistan. He later held the position of Lieutenant General at the Ministry of Defense.

Ustad Qurban Ali Erfani is the son of Ibrahem, and is born in 1944 in Yakawlang District of Bamyan Province. He speaks Dari and Arabic. Erfani started his Islamic Religious Studies at the Najaf Education Seminary in 1979 and then continued his studies at the Qum Islamic Seminary in Iran. He has a bachelor degree in Islamic Education from the Najaf Seminary in Iran in 1991. Erfani is a member of both the Islamic Brotherhood Council in Afghanistan and the Shia Scholars’ Council. He is also the head of a cultural organization called Baqir Ul-Ulom, which is based in Kabul. Erfani was a jihadi commander in different provinces, but primarily in Bamyan, during the war years, and became the Deputy of Hezb-e-Wahdat Islami Afghanistan (led by Abdul Karim Khalili) in 1996. When the transitional government of Afghanistan was established in 2001, he served as an advisor to the president in ethnic and tribal affairs until 2005. Erfani was then selected by Karzai to serve in the Meshrano Jirga for four years. He has also written books on religious issues. Erfani is the founder and chair of Hezb-e-Wahdat Islami Millat, a party that later separated from Khalili’s Hezb-e-Wahdat Islami Afghanistan.
