JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The newly-elected provincial council (PC) members on Saturday were administered oath by the acting governor in eastern Nangarhar province.

Governor Attaullah Ludin, who administered oath to 19 PC members, urged them to abide by the law and strive hard to serve the people who voted them power.

In his address, the acting governor said their top priority should be resolving problems being faced by their respective constituents to their satisfaction. He advised the new public representatives not to wish a luxurious life or contingents of security guards.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Of the 19 provincial council election winners in eastern Nangarhar province, 11 are relatives of public representatives and other high-ranking government officials.

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced the provincial council election results on Oct 25, declaring 19 provincial candidates from Nangarhar successful.

Seven of the winners are former provincial council members while 11 are family members or close friends of Wolesi Jirga members and former jihadi commanders.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Some losing provincial council (PC) candidates in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday alleged their well-off rivals used money and political connections to win seats on the council.

They called for a thoroughgoing investigation into the final results from the April 5 PC elections to expose those who had been declared winners in return for money.

After being put on hold for seven months, results from the elections were announced two days ago by the Independent Election Commission (IEC), sparking protests by losing contenders.
