KABUL (PAN): The Wolesi Jirga -- or lower house of the parliament -- on Monday tasked a commission with exposing land-grabbers within two months.
Zalmai Mujaddedi, the head of the panel that was created last year, informed lawmakers that more than half a million acres of land had been illegally seized across the country over the past three decades.

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai on Thursday described next year’s presidential vote as important for the country’s future, urging all Afghans to actively participate in the elections.
In a radio address to the nation, he said: “Voter registration for the third presidential ballot has got under way. The Afghans will elect a new head of state next year.”

KABUL (PAN): Some residents of northern Jawzjan province complain the Taliban intercept passenger vehicles, rip apart people’s national identity and voter cards and threaten them with death.
On the other hand, the insurgents confirm the main highway closure, but deny tearing people’s ID or election cards.

KABUL (PAN): The head of Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA)’s moderate faction, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, on Thursday called for insurgent groups to stop fighting and participate in elections.
Addressing a party gathering in Kabul, the economy minister condemned suicide and bomb attacks that killed and wounded innocent people. Such attacks amounted to the continuation of foreign aggression against Afghanistan, he said.

KABUL (PAN): Meshrano Jirga -- upper house of parliament-- members on Sunday failed to take a decision on the issue of tribe’s name in new computerised identity cards (CNICs).
Earlier in the week, the Wolesi Jirga decided against the tribe’s name in ID cards, but approved the inclusion of the holder’s last name and religion.

KABUL (PAN): Over the past three months, Iran has expelled nearly 1,000 illegal Afghan immigrants who entered the neighbouring country in search of jobs, the minister of refugees told the upper house on Sunday.
