KABUL (PAN): The Wolesi Jirga -- or lower house of parliament -- on Saturday accepted two suggestions of President Hamid Karzai about a draft election law, but could not take any decision on others proposals due to lack of quorum.

BRUSSELS (PAN): The US defense secretary said on Wednesday Washington and its partners had made it crystal clear to Kabul that a free, open and fair election was an essential part of any future commitment. 

KABUL (PAN): A key opposition coalition on Thursday accused the government of trying to rig the upcoming presidential elections, saying the authorities were intent on catapulting a candidate of its choice to power.
National Coalition of Afghanistan leader Dr. Abdullah Abdullah alleged the government wanted to ensure the success of its favourite in an effort further disturb the situation.

BRUSSELS (PAN): The US defense secretary said on Wednesday Washington and its partners had made it crystal clear to Kabul that a free, open and fair election was an essential part of any future commitment. 

BRUSSELS (PAN): The NATO secretary-general on Wednesday renewed his call for the Karzai administration to focus on better governance and combat corruption to ensure continued international assistance to the war-torn country.
“Securing human rights and fair elections will pave the way for continued international support for Afghanistan,” Anders Fogh Rasmussen told journalists on the sidelines of NATO defence ministers’ meeting here.

KABUL (PAN): The parliamentarians on Wednesday asked international troops, who are scheduled to leave Afghanistan next year, not to dismantle their military installations and hand them over to the government.
Chairing the Wolesi Jirga session, Deputy Speaker Mirwais Yasin told the lower house the foreign troops had recently started destroying their installations in different parts of the country.
