Women’s active participation in polls urged

HERAT CITY (PAN): The Shindand district chief escaped unhurt in a roadside bombing in western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.
Abdul Hamid Fazli was traveling from Herat City, the provincial capital, to Shindand when his vehicle struck the roadside bomb on the outskirts of Dadraskan district, the town's police chief said.

 
HERAT CITY (PAN): Civil society activists on Tuesday asked the government to ensure the upcoming elections took place without any interference from irrelevant individuals in the western zone.
The call was echoed at a gathering of civil society activists representing various groups from Herat, Ghor and Badghis provinces.

 
HERAT CITY (PAN): The airport chief for the western province of Herat has been arrested on corruption charges, an official said on Tuesday.
Attorney Gul Ahmad Ramesh told Pajhwok Afghan News Mohammad Azam Azimi had been detained on the basis of complaints from airport staff.

 
HERAT CITY (PAN): Six workers of the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) have been kidnapped in the Gulran district of western Herat province on Monday, police said.
The kidnap victims included four engineers and two drivers, Herat police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.  
Under NSP, a flagship initiative of the government, tangible development services have been delivered to rural communities across the country.

 
HERAT CITY (PAN): Hundreds of kilograms of drugs destined for neighbouring Iran have been seized in the Ghoryan district of western Herat province, police said on Saturday.
The opium, weighing 330 kilograms, was recovered from a house in a remote area of the district on Friday evening, police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
