KABUL (PAN): A global rights group on Tuesday asked the Wolesi Jirga to throw out a proposed criminal law revision that would effectively deny women legal protection from domestic violence.
A new draft of the criminal procedure code is currently being considered by the lower house of the parliament, according to Human Rights Watch, which claimed seeing the proposed legislative measure.

KABUL (PAN): A joint commission of both houses of th parliament on Monday approved the draft election law with some amendments after a prolonged debate.
The panel okayed remaining controversial articles of the law after a majority of members voted in their favour, said Nazir Ahmad Hanafi, who headed the 14-member delegation.
The joint commission was established to resolve differences between the two houses on some clauses and send the law for approval to the president.

KABUL (PAN): Despite denials from the Presidential Palace, some lawmakers on Monday reiterated the government planned to convene a jirga on extending its tenure and amending the constitution.

KABUL (PAN): A number of senators on Tuesday asserted their legislative privilege, saying the Independent Election Commission (IEC) reserved no right to set the parliament a deadline for approval of draft laws.
A day earlier, the commission asked both houses of the parliament to adopt proposed laws on elections and IEC structure within 10 days. A delay in their passage will mean non-implementation of the laws, it warned.

KABUL (PAN): A joint parliamentary commission was set up on Monday to reconcile differences between the two chambers on contentious articles of draft laws regarding the structure of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and polls.
