KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced on Saturday that up to 300,000 national and international observers would monitor the April presidential polls.   Addressing a youth gathering in Kabul, IEC spokesperson Noor Mohammad Noor promised all interested civil society groups would be afforded the opportunity to observe the polling process.     

KABUL (PAN): Calling this year’s presidential polls crucial to shaping Afghanistan’s destiny, the electoral body on Thursday said the April vote would be inclusive and transparent.

 
KABUL (PAN): Some Meshrano Jirga members on Tuesday called for removing war criminals’ names from the list of presidential candidates, but others called such an effort is a conspiracy against the democratic process.

 
KABUL (PAN): As preparations for next year’s vote continue, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Monday said it had started sending non-sensitive materials to provinces.

 
KABUL (PAN): Dr. Ashraf Ghani, a former World Bank official and finance minister, is leading the race for the presidency, followed by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, according to a new opinion poll released on Sunday.
Jointly conducted by Glevum Associates, a Washington-based research company, and Asia Innovative Research Communication, the survey puts President Hamid Karzai’s brother Qayyum Karzai in third place.
