Women’s active participation in polls urged

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Traders and businessmen in this western city of Herat complained on Tuesday their businesses received great setback because of the prolonged electoral process.
Local traders and businessmen told Pajhwok Afghan News that businesses have been affected and on downward trend since last six months. In addition, protest demonstrations by supporters of presidential contender Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has made the situation worst, they added.

 
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok):  Dozens of women on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) office in western Herat province, demanding transparency in the electoral process.
The women, supporters of presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, also chanted slogans in support of democracy and called for the separation of fraudulent votes from genuine ones.
They warned of launching a protest movement if transparency in the vote-tallying process was not ensured.

 
KABUL (Pajhwok): About 19,000 ballots from 32 polling sites in western Herat and southern Kandahar provinces have been invalidated in the wake of alleged fraud, officials said on Wednesday.
After a review of ballots from 59 sites, votes from 24 areas were declared null and void, the Independent Election Commission (IECC) chief in Herat, Abdullah Sherzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah’s supporters, mostly students, held a protest demonstration over alleged electoral fraud in western Herat province.
Students taking part in the protest in Herat City, the provincial capital, burnt their voter registration cards in protest against alleged irregularities in the contest between Abdullah and rival Ashraf Ghani during the June 14 by-election.
