Women’s active participation in polls urged

KABUL (Pajhwok): Three children were killed by unidentified armed men in eastern Herat and northern Baghlan provinces, officials said Thursday.
Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesman for Herat Civil Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News dead body of a kid aged one-and-half-year and another child were found on the Khwaja Abdullah Ansari road near 8th police district this morning.
Sherzai said that identity of the slain children could not be ascertained. He said it also could not be ascertained immediately who was behind the killing.

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A former jihadi commander was shot dead along with his wife by unidentified gunmen in the capital of western Herat province on Tuesday, a security official said on Thursday.
Mohammad Ahmad Saeed, also known as Siyah Khan Chonkar, came under fire along with his family from motorcyclists on their way home from Jakan locality on Wednesday night, the police spokesman said.
Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi added Chonkar and his spouse were and his daughter wounded in the shooting. The gunmen managed to escape and their motive was yet to be ascertained.

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Five employees of an NGO, abducted by militants in Western Herat province, were rescued from their captives on Wednesday, officials said.
Four doctors and their driver were kidnapped by armed insurgents on a highway in Ghoryan district some weeks back, the provincial police spokesman said.
Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the kidnapped men were released from militant captivity in Adraskan district following hectic efforts by local elders.
