Women’s active participation in polls urged

After Kabul, Herat is the second most populated province of Afghanistan. Located in the west part of the country, Herat borders Iran and Turkmenistan.
Bestowed with abundant natural resources in its remote parts, the province has copper, iron, coal, marble, lithium, salt, stucco and precious stones deposits.
Herat Mines and Petroleum Director Eng. Abdul Jamil Ilyas said that natural resources in the province had been divided into three categories -- large, medium and small.

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Herat provincial council members on Saturday said the law and order situation has significantly improved in recent weeks.
Speaking at a meeting on the security situation, the provincial council head said four month back Herat used to witness violent incidents on a daily basis.
But the overall situation had improved lately, Kamran Ali Rezaee noted, praising acting police chief Maj. Gen. Abdul Majid Rozi’s performance.

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Officials in western Herat province said that 448 cases of violence against women had been registered with 34 women lost their lives during the past nine months.
Efforts by international and locals’ organizations had been intensified to eliminate violence against women in Afghanistan, but the menace against women continued.
Officials said that most of the cases were carried out by the husbands of women. Provincial women affairs department said that killing cases of women by their husbands had increased from the past one year.
