TARINKORT (PAN): A suicide bomber was shot dead on Sunday before he could reach his target in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, an official said.
The bomber in a police uniform planned to target Kabul Bank’s branch in the city where tens of policemen had come to collect their salaries, the governor’s spokesman said.

TIRINKOT (PAN): Hundreds of enraged protestors on Sunday forcibly closed a voter registration centre in the Gizab district of central Uruzgan province.
Up to 600 demonstrators took to the streets in the district at 9am, chanting full-throated slogans against the Independent Election Commission's (IEC) ill-planning.  

 
TIRINKOT (PAN): A district education officer was among four people shot dead by suspected insurgents in central Uruzgan province late on Wednesday, an official said.
Abdul Hadi Khan, the education officer for Khas Uruzgan district, was gunned down along with his son Aziz Ahmad and a co-villager named Hafizullah.

 
TIRINKOT (PAN): Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on Saturday paid a surprise visit to Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, an official said.
Heading a delegation that included her defence minister, national security advisor and the Australian ambassador to Afghanistan, Rudd met troops during the unannounced trip to Tirinkot.

KABUL (PAN): Marjan, 50, the only female member of the provincial council in central Uruzgan province, says it was her long resistance against the Taliban that translated into her election as member of the council.
Despite numerous challenges and attempts on her life by the Taliban, Marjan was able to be elected as the council member after she attracted the attention of tribal elders who proposed her to run for a provincial council seat.
