GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials say they have started holding consultative meetings with civil society activists and tribal elders on elections related problems in southeastern Paktia province.
They say the meetings are aimed at identifying problems in the previous elections to avoid their repetition and work for their solution so that the future elections are transparent.

TARINKOT (Pajhwok): Some residents of Dahrawad district in central Uruzgan province on Saturday claimed militants were about to capture the main district bazaar but security forces said they tactically retreated from some check posts.
At least 167 militants, seven Afghan security forces and as many civilians have been killed in fierce clashes that erupted in several parts of the province. For the last few days, insurgents had intensified attacks on security forces in different districts.

TARINKOAT (Pajhwok): Surveys conducted in the past shown the central Uruzgan province had large scale reservoirs of natural resources, officials of provincial mines department said.
Ahmad JavedKhpalwak, provincial director of mines department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the previoussurveys proved that mines of precious stones and gold had existed in the capital city and some districts of the province.
Provincial mines department was established which had been striving to initiate fresh surveys in a move to explore natural resources in the province, he remarked.

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): For the first time, women of central Uruzgan province on Thursday publicly voiced their support for Afghan security forces and presented them bouquets as a token of respect.
Dozens of women attended a gathering in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, along with a larger number of men to pay homage to Afghan forces for their efforts to maintain security and the sacrifices the rendered in the line of duty.
