TARINKOT (Pajhwok): The residents of central Uruzgan province cast ballot in the second round of presidential election on June 14 in a tension-free and peaceful environment.

Most of the voters said they had fewer problems on voting day as compared to the April 5 presidential and provincial council polls.

Governor Amanullah Taimori told Pajhwok Afghan News security was put on high alert throughout the polling stations and people streamed to polling stations without any sense of fear.

Militants did not create problems on ballot day and the democratic process was completed without any untoward incident or fraud report, he added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Majid Sharifi, director of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said one of his employees was killed in roadside bombing in the Khas Uruzgan district.

He expressed optimism by saying that the voting process had been completed in a peaceful environment amid great turnout.
