4 campaigners of a candidate killed in Paktia

 
GARDEZ (PAN): Tribal elders and civil society activists on Tuesday asked the government to establish more voter registration centers in southeastern Paktia province.
They also called on security organs to ensure elaborate security measures were taken around polling stations.
Speaking at a press conference, Janat Khan Mangal, a tribal elder, said only one voter registration centre had been established in each district.

 
GARDEZ (PAN): Sixty-five insurgents have been killed during airstrikes in the Aryub Zazai district of southeastern Paktia province near the Pakistan border, the Afghan National Army (ANA) said on Monday.
The 203rd Thunder Corps said it conducted the air raids on militant hideouts in the Ruqyan area of the district over the past 24 hours, inflicting heavy casualties on the Taliban. 

 
GARDEZ (PAN): A dozen civilians were wounded during a bomb explosion in the capital of southeastern Paktia province on Wednesday, an official said.
Deputy police chief for the province, Col. Mohammad Zaman, said the blast resulted from a roadside bomb in the main Gardez bazaar at about 10am.
The target of the explosive device was yet to be ascertained, he said, adding police had launched an investigation into the incident.

GARDEZ (PAN): Two separate demonstrations were staged on Monday in Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, in support and against Governor Juma Khan Hamdard.
Up to 100 people, including tribal elders and civil society representatives, took to the streets against what one organiser called the governor of sheer incompetence and involvement in corruption.
