Paktia province is located 115 kilometers to the southeast of the capital Kabul. It is the central province of southeast zone with 14 administrative units including the capital Gardiz.
1-      Gardiz City:
The Gardiz city is the capital of Paktia province and has developed provincial government administrative infrastructure and personnel.
The city has the population of approximately 400,000 individuals with their main occupation are agriculture, trade and orchards. Most of its residents are working abroad to earn their livelihood.
2-Ahmadabad District:
 The Ahmadabad district is situated 15 kilometers to the north of Gadiz city. The districts is among the nearest areas to the provincial capital with the population of around 100,000 individuals, having few mountainous spot, the large swathes of Ahmadabad consist of wide and plain area, however, the exact figure of its area is not known.
The main occupation of its residents is agriculture, though, some of the people are working abroad.
3-Sayed Karam
 Among the central districts of Paktia, Sayed Karam is situated at a distance of 35 kilometers from the provincial capital, sharing border with Logar province.
The exact figure of its area is not known but the district is among the largest districts having plenty of plain area and few mountains.
Despite of agriculture and trade activities, large numbers of its residents travels abroad for working in different capacities.
 
4-Merzakh District:
The Merzakh district is located 40 kilometers to the southeast ofGardiz city. Its population is estimated approximately 80,000 individuals.
The district has vast natural forests and its residents are associated with the profession of agriculture, livestock, and transportation of goods through trucks.
 
5-      Ahmadkhel District:
 
The Ahmadkhel district is located 40 kilometers away to the east of capital Gardiz. Its estimated population touches the figure of 75,000 individuals.
The people of the district utilize natural forests for their earning with some of them do their own trade. Some of its residents live in Kabul and Gardiz cities.
 
6-      Zazi Aryub:
 
Among the frontier districts, Zazi Aryub is located 60 kilometers to the east of provincial capital.
 
The district has wide natural forests while the occupation of its residents is agriculture, livestock and business.
 
7-      Lazha Mangal District:
The Lazha Mangal district is located in the southern part of the province and 50 kilometers away from the provincial capital city.
It estimated population is 60,000 individual. Its dwellers migrated to the neighboring Pakistan and Kabul city due to unemployment, illiteracy and continued strife.
Timber is easy way of earning and its forests are rich in precious timber trees.
 
8-      Janikhel District:
 
The Janikhel district is situated 70 kilometers to the east of provincial capital. Its population touches the figure of 65,000 individuals. Their main source of income is natural forests and dry fruits.
 
9-      Tsamkani District:
 
The Tsamkani district is located 70 kilometers to the southeast of provincial capital, sharing border with Pakistan.
Its population reaches to 200,000 individuals with its majority are government employees while some are associated with agriculture and personal business.
 
10-  Dand Aw Patan District:
 
Among the frontier districts, the Dand Aw Patan is located 58 kilometers to the east of the provincial capital having the population of 60,000 individuals.
The residents of the district eke out their livelihood from agriculture, business, and working abroad in the Gulf States.
 
11-  Shawak District:
 
The Shawk district is located 35 kilometers to the southeast of Gardiz city with its population touches the figure of 30,000 individuals.
Large numbers of its residents live in Khost and Pakistan while the remainingis busy in the deforestation in the districts.
 
12-  Gerda Seria:
 
The Gerda Seria district is located 45 kilometers to the southeast of the provincial capital. It has a total population of around 30,000 inhabitants.
A large number of its residents live in Khost and Pakistan while the remaining is busy in the deforestation in the districts.
 
13-  Wuza Zadran:
 
The Wuza Zadran district is located 60 kilometers to the southeast of provincial capital. The population is estimated 30,000 individuals.
Timber is the main business of the people of the district.
 
14-  Zurmat District:
 
The Zurmat district is located 35 kilometers to the southeast of provincial capital. The district shares border with Ghazni and Paktika provinces.
Due to plain areas, Zurmat is more suitable for agriculture, livestock and orchards. Some of its residents are working abroad.
