KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Complaints Commission (IECC) on Saturday said it has registered in total 16,500 complaints and dispatched them to 14 provinces for assessment starting tomorrow.
The preliminary election result was announced last Sunday and Ashraf Ghani who secured 50.64 percent votes is the winner. Dr. Abdullah Abdullah is second by securing over 39 percent of votes.
Based on the electoral law, candidates can register their complaints within three days after the announcement of preliminary results and the IECC should respond to them within 15 days.
Qutbuddin Roidar, an Independent Election Commission (IEC) commissioner, told Pajhwok Afghan News 16,500 complaints had been registered from four electoral teams.
“Around 8,000 complaints have been registered by the Stability and Partnership team, around 4,400 complaints by Peace and Islamic Justice team, over 3,500 registered by State Builder team and 15 complaints have been lodged by Security and Justice team,” he said.
He said these complaints have been dispatched to 14 provinces, including Kabul, and their assessment would start tomorrow.
According to his information, 2,300 complaints have been sent to Kabul, 2,000 to Kandahar, 1,011 to Paktia, 1,000 to Nangarhar, 838 to Helmand, 360 to Logar, 332 to Laghman, 302 to Ghor, 207 to Wardak, 162 to Takhar, 121 to Kapisa, 89 to Parwan, 55 to Faryab and 20 to Bamyan province for assessment.
He said the most of the complaints were registered in Kabul, Nangarhar, Paktia, Khost and Kandahar provinces and would be addressed based on law.
Earlier, Mualvi Din Mohammad Azimi, IECC deputy head, said no decisions would be made in violation of the law. “There is no political pressure on us, we are committed and will act based on the law,” he said.
