KABUL (PAN): An alliance of opposition parties on Tuesday accused President Hamid Karzai of refusing to sign on law on the authority and structure of the Independent Election Commission. Instead the president was seeking to maintain the status quo and hold next year’s presidential and provincial council elections in compliance with a legislative decree, the coalition alleged. On Sept. 24, 2012, the Wolesi Jirga approved the law regarding the power, composition and responsibilities of IEC and Electoral Complaints Commission. But the Meshrano jirga rejected the legislation.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): The deputy police chief of southern Ghazni province, Mohammad Hussain, was killed on Sunday in a bomb attack claimed by Taliban insurgents.
Two guards of the senior police officer were also killed and as many wounded in the roadside bombing that took place at 8am, the governor’s spokesman said.
Nabi Jan told Pajhwok Afghan News Hussain was on his way to Zankhan district, which came under rebel attack earlier in the morning. Security personnel have been sent to the scene.

KABUL (PAN): Some members of the Wolesi Jirga -- or lower house of parliament -- were on Saturday accused of violating the assembly’s decision that lawmakers would not visit the Ministry of Interior (MoI) for a month.
Summoning Interior Minister Mujtaba Patang, lower house members on Wednesday declared they would not visit the ministry in protest against his recent remarks.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Top officials of southern Ghazni province on Tuesday accused the provincial reconstruction team (PRT) and the administration of corruption in executing development projects.
Deputy Governor Mohammad Ali Ahmadi cited administrative corruption as a reason for incomplete projects in Ghazni. Contracts for most projects involved "underhand deals", he alleged.

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Governor Musa Khan Akbarzada on Tuesday said key development projects would be launched in southern Ghazni province soon after the Wolesi Jirga approved the annual budget.
Basic preparations for the schemes had already been completed and work was expected to start by April 20, Akbarzada during an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News.

They invited the fighters to join peace, they threatened the people with death, Khalil Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He alleged the Afghan Taliban, controlled by the Pakistan, were not free to make peace with the government. “Te existence of High Peace Council is aimless, because the insurgents don’t want peace.”

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Seven militants were killed and two others wounded in an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) airstrike in southern Ghazni province on Tuesday, an official said. The raid in Deh Yak district caused no harm to civilians, a spokesman for the Afghan National Army’s 203rd Thunder Corps, Nazifullah Sultani, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Two days back, six local policemen had been killed in an insurgent attack on their post in the restive district, located 18 kilometres east of Ghazni City, the provincial capital.
