In the run-up to Afghanistan's presidential and provincial council elections on Aug. 20, Afghan and international political elites and journalists will pass judgment on the past five years. But only the Afghan people can decide who will best lead their country for the next five.

PESHAWAR: With preparations for the second presidential polls in full swing in their country of origin, a large number of Afghans residing in different areas of Pakistan may not join the process for a number of reasons.

TALOQAN (PAN): President Hamid Karzai's first vice president pick Marshal Qasim Fahim on Sunday survived an assassination attempt in the northern Kunduz province.
