SHARAN/GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Twenty-five Taliban militants, five election campaigners and two policemen were killed and 20 others wounded in the restive south, officials said on Saturday.

KHOST CITY (PAN): Head of Afghanistan Tribal Solidarity Council (ATSC) Ghazni Nawaz Tani Saturday said 2000 tribesmen would keep guard on polling stations on the voting day in restive and remote districts of southeastern Khost, Paktia and Paktika provinces.

JALALABAD (PAN): Two people were killed and six others wounded as policemen opened indiscriminate fire at demonstrators in Paron, capital of the eastern province of Nuristan, officials said on Friday.

KABUL (PAN): A 30-member team of the International Republican Institute (IRI) is scheduled to arrive in Afghanistan to monitor the upcoming presidential and provincial council elections.
