KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential candidate Rahmatullah Nabil on Monday said the Independent Election Commission (IEC) was yet to address their demands and termed the vote recount and audit against the electoral law and procedure.
On November 9, the electoral panel started the audit and recount of votes from 8,255 of the 26,580 polling stations to sift fraudulent ballots from valid ones.
The move has drawn opposition from several candidates including Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Gulbadin Hekmatyar.
However, the IEC  resumed the vote recount and audit process across the country on Sunday.
Rahmatullah Nabil, the ‘Security and Justice’ electoral team leader, told a press conference in Kabul that the IEC was yet to address their legal demands or convince them about the vote recount and audit process.
The former spymaster accused the IEC of trying to enter 173,000 votes into the system that had been invalided by Dermalog Company.
He said the country was facing different crises and the IEC should not confront the country with electoral crisis.
He said no one should attempt to use security forces for their personal interest and political purposes.
He also called on Kabul-based embassies not to interfere in the presidential election affairs.
He said they had no illegal demand from the IEC and they just wanted implementation of the electoral law and procedure.
A day earlier, the ‘Stability and Partnership’ electoral team led by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah insisted it would not take part in the vote recount and audit process that would call into question the election’s legitimacy if not stopped.
The presidential election was held on September 28. The preliminary result was expected to be announced on October 19 and the final outcome on October 7.
But the results were postponed due to slow data entry and technical problems in the commission’s main server.
The IEC had earlier promised unveiling the preliminary results from the election on November 14 and the final results on December 6.
