KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) says that more than two million votes were cast at 3,736 polling centres in 29 provinces of the country.
Maulana Mohammad Abdullah, IEC commissioner, wrote on his Facebook page ballots from 3,736 polling centres had arrived in Kabul. He put the number of votes counted at 2,196,463.
The official added votes from 786 polling centres would reach soon the IEC head office in Kabul.
The presidential ballot, featuring 13 candidates including President Ghani and CEO Abdullah, was conducted on Saturday.
The IEC had set up 5,373 polling centres across the country but 617 of them remained closed due to security threats.
The commission says the number of votes cast would be announced on Monday (today).
