KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced preliminary results of the October Wolesi Jirga elections from southeastern Paktia province late Sunday.
Addressing reporters in Kabul, IEC chief Abdul Badai Sayyad said Mohammad Nawab Mangal topped the list of successful candidates with 4,578 votes.
Yar Baz Khan Hameedi who obtained 4479 votes, Mohammad Ibrahim Ghashtali 3,884 votes and Syed Hassan Gardezi 3,854 votes were other leading candidates from Paktia.
Sayyad said Razia Sadat Mangal found her way to the Wolesi Jirga from Paktia as leading woman candidate with 2,195 votes.
The IEC head asked voters, political parties, electoral watchdogs and other institutions to registrar their complaints regarding the preliminary results with the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IEC) within two working days after the announcement of the results.
Sayyad said the results of Baghlan and Kabul would also be unveiled soon.
