5 policemen dead in Samangan firefight

AIBAK (Pajhwok): At least five policemen were killed and another seriously wounded in militants’ attack on a police check post in Dar-e-Sof Payen district of northwestern Samangan, a resident said Saturday.
A resident of Bayanan village of the district wishing anonymity told Pajhwok Afghan News anti-state rebels attacked a police check post in Kanda Moshak area of the district at around 2:00 am last night.
After a brief gun fire with militants, one police officer among four of his colleagues were killed and another wounded. Six other policemen were apprehended by militants.
He said Taliban seized cash and ammunitions from the check post.
Mohammad Hashim Sarwari, a provincial council member, confirmed the incident but said that the gun battle last four hours.
Sarwari added the check post fell to insurgents due to delay in arrival of logistic form the district centre.
Dozens of Taliban infiltrated in Bayanan, Daikondy, Baghak and Damaki villages of Dar-e-Sof district, but security officials have not taken serious action to check their influx.
Pajhwok Afghan News repeatedly tried to get view point of Fakhruddin, the district chief and Col. Najeeb Ullah, the police chief, about the incident but both the officials were unable to speak.
