The northern Samangan province including the capital city of Aibak comprised seven administrative units.
 
1 – Aibak City:
 
Aibak is the capital city of Samangan with its population stood at 85, 427 individuals. The city is situated on Mazar-i-Sharif-Pul-i-Khumri highway and occupies a geo-strategic importance in the history of Afghanistan. The province has historic sites. Kafar Qala and Takht-i-Rustam are famous historical places of Samangan. Surrounding areas of Aibak are barren but its remote parts are covered by gardens and jungles. Grapes and peanuts gardens of the province are widely popular.
 
2 – Hazrat-i-Sultan District:
 
Hazrat-i-Sultan District is located 35-kilometers to the north of Aibak city. Population of the town touches the figure of 36, 690 individuals. Most of the district’s parts are mountains. About 85 percent its land is rain-fed. Hazrat-i-Sultan is very famous because of its historic site of Ghar Qara Qamar.
 
3 – Khuram Wa Sarbagh District:
 
Khuram Was Sarbagh district is located 45- kilometers to the south of Aibak city. Population of the capital city is estimated at about 30,704 individuals. District is a mountainous one, having 85 percent of its land is rain-fed. Residents of the district are associated with the profession of agriculture and livestock. The gardens of apples, grapes and walnuts are very famous.
 
4 – Dara-i-Souf Bala District:
 
Dara-i-Souf Bala district is located 120-kilometers to the west of Aibak city. Population of the town touched the figures of 52, 473 individuals. Having two mines coal, most parts of the district are covered by mountains with most of its residents have their profession of livestock.  
 
5 – Dara-i-Souf Payeen District:
 
Dara-i-Souf Payeen district is located 120-kilometers to the northwest of Aibak city. Population of the town touches the figures of 55,858 individuals. The province has 90 percent rain-fed land with most of its area is covered by mountains. Residents of the district are associated with the profession of agriculture and livestock. The district has many mines of coal.
 
6 – Roi Do Aab District:
 
Roi Do Aab district is located 140-kilometers to the south of Samangan. Population of the town touches the figures of 40,358 individuals, sharing borders with Bamyan and Baghlan provinces. most of the district is mountainous with 10 percent lands of the town are irrigated and rain-fed. Agriculture and livestock are main sources of revenues generation for the residents. The district has a number of coal mines.
 
7 – Firouz Nakhjir District:
 
Firouiz Nakhjir district lie 50 kilometers to the northwest of Aibak city. Population of the town is estimated about 11,701 individuals. It shares borders with Khilm and Marmal districts of Balkh province. The district has vast plain lands with agriculture and livestock are among the mains sources of revenues of the residents. Grapes gardens of the district are famous.
