Public representative escapes unhurt in suicide attack

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The provincial council chief escaped unhurt in a suicide attack in southern Kandahar City on Sunday morning, an official said.

A child was wounded in the bomb attack that happened in the Aino Mina area of the city at about 10am, the Kandahar governor’s spokesman said.

Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News that a white Corolla car was used for the bombing. The attacker, who was being chased by police, detonated the explosives-laden car in a square.

A child was wounded in the suicide attack, for which there was no immediate claim of responsibility, the official said.

Jamil, who owns a shop in the area, said provincial council head Syed Jan Khakrezwal was the bomber’s target.

The public representative came under attack on his way to office, the shopkeeper said, adding Khakrezwal escaped unhurt.

Another eyewitness, Murid, said the provincial council chief’s security guards fired gunshots after the explosion. A car caught fire immediately after the heavy blast.

A doctor at the Mirwais Civil Hospital in Kandahar City confirmed receiving a wounded child from the scene of the attack.
