The southern Kandahar Province has 17 districts with another 18 administrative units.
1 – Kandahar City:
From the day first, the legendary leader Ahmad Shah Ibdali was intending to declare Kandahar as the capital of the war-battered country. He also laid down the foundation stone in 1790 widely known as Ahmad Shahi Kandahar. Formerly named as Ashraful Bilad, Kandahar has the credit of ancient city of Durani Empire. Formerly, Ashraful Bilad had four districts with a square, which depicts the ancient architecture art of Kandahar. Currently, Kandahar has been divided further having 10 municipality and districts.
2 – Spinboldak District:
Located 110 kilometers east of Kandahar city, the residents of Spinboldak are widely associated with the profession of agriculture. The main tribes of Spinboldak are Asakzai and Noorzai and the district has 338 villages. Ishqzai, Popalzai, Barikzai, Kochi, and Taraki tribes are also living in the district.
3 – Arghistan District:
Arghistan is located 100 kilometers southeast of Kandahar city and shares border with Manzki area of Baluchistan and Shahr-i-Safa District of southern Zabul Province. Arghistan has 335 big and small villages with a total strength of population here touch the figure of 70,000 persons. People here mainly associated with the profession of agriculture, livestock, and have their own businesses.
4 – Shah Walikot District:
Known as a populated town, Shah Walikot is located 40 kilometers northeast of Kandahar city. The district has 710 villages. The Dahli Dam on Arghandab River is also located in this district. Residents of Shah Walikot have their profession of agriculture and livestock. The widely known agriculture crop of the district is figs, almond, and pomegranate.   
5 – Arghandab District:
Arghandab District is located 10 kilometers northeast of Kandahar city and is considered as one of the flourishing districts of the province, with special reference its grapes and pomegranates are known fruits. Having around 72 villages, Arghandab River is extended into southwest of the city, which stretches on 277 kilometers of land and flown into the Helmand River.
6 – Maroof District:
Maroof is located at a distance of 190 kilometers from Kandahar and is close to the Durand Line, which shares 155 kilometers border with Pakistan. It shares border with Atghar, Shamlzo, Shinkai, and Siori Districts of Zabul Province, the district has 360 villages. Its population stands between 150, 000 to 200, 000 individuals. Economy of the people of the area mainly depends on agriculture and livestock.
7 – Daman District:
Daman is located 22 kilometers east of Kandahar city, and shares borders with Dand, Takhtapul, Shah Walikot, and Arghandab District of Kandahar and Shahr-i-Safa District of southern Zabul Province. The Kabul-Kandahar and Kandahar-Spinboldak highways and the Trank and Arghistan Rivers flow across this district. Daman District has 231 small and big villages with its population stands at about 65,000 individuals.
8 – Zherai District:
Zherai is located 25 kilometers west of Kandahar with Kandahar-Herat highway crosses into this district. Zherai has been included into the administrative units of the province. Agriculture and livestock are the profession of the people here.
9 – Panjwai District:
Located at 25 kilometers west of Kandahar city, the residents of this district grow grapes, pomegranates, wheat, barleys, and other agriculture crops. Norzai, Alokozai, Asakzai, Ishaqzai, and Kakar are the main tribes of Panjwai District.
10. Takhta Pul District:
Takhta Pul is located 45 kilometers distance from Kandahar city on Kandahar-Spinboldak District. The district has 115 big and small villages with its population strength 34,600 individuals. Its residents are associated with the profession of agriculture and livestock.
11 - Dand District:
Dand is located seven kilometers southwest of Kandahar city. The district has 172 villages with a population of 38,000 individuals. Almost 60 % of its population have their agriculture, 10 % business, 5 %, livestock while the rest 7 % have their own businesses.
12 – Mianshin District:
The northern district of Kandahar Province, Mianshin is located 70 kilometers from Kandahar city. Over the past six years, the district was under the control of armed rebels, but was recaptured following an operation by Afghan security forces last year. Mianshin District has 353 villages with 26,000 populations. Livestock is the main profession of the people.
13 – Nish District:
Nish is located 160 kilometers north of Kandahar city. It has 94 villages with a population of 44,000 individuals. A road linking the district to Kandahar city is unpaved. Most of its residents are associated with the profession of agriculture with wheat and a white cumin crop is abundant.
14 – Maiwand District:
Maiwand is located 70 kilometers from Kandahar city on Herat-Kandahar highway. Agriculture and livestock are the main profession of the people with wheat, maize, and cotton grow in large number.
15 – Khakriz District:
Khakriz is located 60 kilometers north of Kandahar city. A road linking the district to Kandahar city is unpaved. Its residents are mostly associated with the profession of agriculture and livestock. Farmers of the area irrigate their land with canals water. Popalzai, Alokozai, tokhi, Kochi, and Mohamadzi are the main tribes of Khakriz District.
16 – Khorawak District:
Khorawak is located 230 kilometers south of Kandahar city and is close to the Durand Line. Having plain lands, this district has less water resources with no known gardens. A road linking Khorawak with Kandahar city but is in dilapidated condition.
17 – Ghorak District:
Ghorak District is located 100 kilometers north of Kandahar city. It shares borders with Helmand and Uruzgan Provinces. Earlier, it was under the control of Taliban, but the militants were flushed out from the district following a clean-up operation by the Afghan security forces last year. The strength of its population is about 8,000 individuals with most of them associated with the profession of agriculture and livestock.
18 – Regisan District:
Registan is located 350 kilometers south of Kandahar city and is close to the Duran Line. It shares border with Baluchistan Province of Pakistan. The district has less agriculture activities because of hot weather in summer season.
