Rassoul vows to boost Kandahar security

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Presidential runner Dr. Zalmai Rassoul on Saturday promised promotion of the agriculture sector and strengthening security in southern Kandahar province.
Addressing a public meeting here in connection with his election campaign, Rassoul said he would focus on improvement in the two areas in Kandahar if he won the April 5 presidential vote.
Apart from his choices for vice-presidents, Abdul Qayyum Karzai, Mahmood Karzai, provincial council members and parliamentarians Shakiba Hashmi, Fariba Ahmadi Kakar and Rana Tarin attended the gathering.
Happy over his visit to the city after several years, the ex-foreign minister said that if Afghanistan was regarded the heart of Asia, Kandahar was the heart of Afghanistan.
He called Kandahar the most important province of Afghanistan from the economic perspective, but the security situation there had been far from satisfactory. He also pledged to address issues related to delay in dispensation of justice.
