Sherzai slams Kandahar security organs

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Presidential runner Mohammad Shafiq Gul Agha Sherzai on Monday alleged security institutions in southern Kandahar province had not adopted any measures to ensure his safety.
Addressing a news conference here, he said he had travelled to Bamyan, Daikundi and other provinces, where strict security measures had been put in place during his canvassing. But he saw little security during his campaign in Kandahar.
“I visited Bamyan and Daikundi in connection with my election campaign. Tight security was maintained there. But the situation was different when I visited my hometown,” complained the ex-governor, who belongs to Kandahar.
He asked President Hamid Karzai and the defence ministry to direct the authorities concerned to take steps to ensure security of candidates. He threatened to stage a formal protest if proper security was not adopted during his election campaign.
