11 dead in Kandahar unrest

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Two policemen and a child died in a roadside bombing in southern Kandahar province, where eight Taliban insurgents were killed during an operation, officials said on Sunday.
A roadside bomb ripped through a police vehicle, killing two policemen and a child in Arghistan district, the governor’s spokesman, Javid Faisal, told Pajhwok Afghan news.
Arghistan district chief, Abdul Ghani Muslimyar, confirmed the blast, saying police were investigating the incident.
The blast came three weeks after 10 people, including women and children, were killed in a roadside bombing elsewhere in the district.
In Maiwand district, eight Taliban insurgents were killed and as many arrested during a search operation by Afghan forces.
Faisal said another two rebels were wounded during Saturday’s operation that came after reports about increasing Taliban activities in Zherai and Maiwand.
