KABUL (PAN) President Hamid Karzai's pick for economy portfolio, Dr Anwarul Haq Ahadi, has said he would turn the ministry into an effective department in the next five years by bringing coordination among economic activities. Seeking a vote of trust from the lawmakers, the former finance minister presented his future plans and answered their queries. Some lawmakers in today's session called the ministry inactive and ineffective. But Ahadi defending the ministry said it was indispensable in terms of evolving general economy policy for the country and initiating economic programmes. Ahadi, however, acknowledged that the ministry did not achieve what it should have in the past. In response to the questions posed by the MPs, he verified that he had been informed that some non-governmental organisations misused resources supposed to be spent on welfare projects. "Once I received the vote of confidence, I would address this problem," he claimed. He said he would determine the domain of private and government sectors activities in evolving economic policies. He also stressed the government should supervise free market economy activities of private sectors. ss/ma
