KABUL (PAN): Several members of the Wolesi Jirga have denounced the new cabinet as based on compromise, saying most members of the previous team have failed to do their jobs well.

The comments from parliamentarians came the day the President Hamid Karzai introduced 23 members of his new cabinet to the Wolesi Jirga, lower house of parliament.

Fauzia Kofi, member of the Wolesi Jirga, told Pajhwok Afghan News the new cabinet was formed on the basis of compromises that the president had reached with certain members before the August elections.

She alleged some members were appointed on recommendations from known persons or groups and they would remain more loyal to their parties and mentors than promoting the national interest.

Another parliamentarian complained women had been ignored in the cabinet nomination. Gul Badshah Majeedi criticised some picks for their failure to achieve their goals during their previous tenure; they were still included in the new set-up.

Before the unveiling of the long-awaited cabinet, an official of the attorney-general's office presented names of some senior corruption-tainted government functionaries to the parliament.

Muhammad Naeem Farahi, member of the Wolesi Jirga from the western Farah province, charged the people accused of graft had once again been included in the new cabinet. He opined details about their past and their documents should have been presented before the Wolesi Jirga ahead of their introduction for trust vote.

Rules relating to the work of the Wolesi Jirga state details about a member should be presented in the house at least four days before his/her introduction for trust vote.
