AIBAK (Pajhwok): At least five policemen were killed and another seriously wounded in militants’ attack on a police check post in Dar-e-Sof Payen district of northwestern Samangan, a resident said Saturday.
A resident of Bayanan village of the district wishing anonymity told Pajhwok Afghan News anti-state rebels attacked a police check post in Kanda Moshak area of the district at around 2:00 am last night.

AIBAK (Pajhwok): The northern Samangan province--- situated on the strategic Kabul-Balkh highway--- is one of the most important provinces of Afghanistan as far as the natural resources are concerned.
Samangan is rich in natural mines of coal, marbles, stucco, cements and other kinds of reservoirs.
The upper and lower Souf valleys are abundant in mines of natural resources but those are being illegally extracted by local groups.
1- Coal:
The mines are located in upper Soufand lower Souf valleys and Duab districts.

AIBAK (Pajhwok): The residents of northwestern Samangan province have blocked implementation of a water supply project, demanding the construction of a reservoir in their area to tackle the water shortage issue.
However, local officials working on the project said the construction of a water reservoir was included in their programme. Officials say the project worth $8.9 million is 95 percent complete but work on it has been halted in Zhwandoon valley.
