ZARANJ (Pajhwok): The provincial council of southwestern Nimroz province says it has made many achievements in implementing infrastructural projects, but residents complain the council lacks vision to combat administrative graft.
Nimroz provincial council has nine members including two women. On January 28, the lower house of parliament barred provincial councils from overseeing the performance of local departments. The move prompted the councils to go on strike for more than 45 days, regaining the oversight right.

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Some tribal elders of southwestern Nimroz province on Saturday demanded the incumbent governor to continue his job while others expressed concerns over the performance of the governor.
As many as 200 elders marched towards the building of Borders and Tribal Affairs Department and praised Governor Amir Mohammad Akhundzada for improved law and order, development of agriculture and forging unity among tribes in the province.

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Police in southwestern Nimroz province on Wednesday arrested a smuggler and recovered 130 kilograms of heroin from a truck he wanted to smuggle to Iran, an official said.
Police Chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangal Bagh, said the contraband was concealed in the track and recovered by police during search at the zero point area of the border between Afghanistan and Iran.
He said the truck was empty and was heading to Iran to bring imported goods back to Afghanistan from Abbas Port in Iran.

Nimroz is one of the large provinces located in southwestern part of Afghanistan bordering Iran in the west and Pakistan in the south. It is said that the province was named “Nimroz” in the middle ages.
Based on the information by the mines department of Nimroz, the province has various types of mines, but due to absence of census since 1973, exact amount of mines and minerals are not known in the province.
Mines Director Eng. Shamalzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the province is rich in salt, precious gems, stones and even lithium.
