AYBAK (PAN): Officials and residents of Samangan have conflicting views in line with completion of development projects in the province.
Officials said rehabilitation projects were implemented in different parts of the province but rejecting officials’ view point, residents said development projects could not be carried out as per were expected by the locals,
Sadiqullah Aziz, a spokesman of Samangan governor told Pajhwok Afghan News major development have been done in the province, saying some areas of the province needed to be developed further.
He informed greater attention was paid to promote the health sector in greater interests of the locals.
Giving minute detail of the rehabilitation projects, the spokesman said new hospitals have been constructed in Aybak and Ruyi Duab districts provided with all modern medical equipments. Clinics were also built in five districts.
Azizi informed major development had been done to promote the power sector, he said, adding new transformers were established in Aybak with 16 megawatt power generating capacity while the city consumed only three megawatt electricity.
He underlined the need the government should help build roads, linking the capital city with rest of the districts.
The construction of 11-kilometers Aybak city road had been completed while the building of another 60-kilometers road was underway, the spokesman said, adding the completion of the projects would bring the implementation of the overall projects to 70% in the province.
The construction of provincial government infrastructure was in progress with hectic work. About 95% construction of provincial government institutions had been completed so far.
Currently, the most pressing problem faced by the residents was the shortage of drinking water; the officials had already taken the notice of the issue who held out promises to tackle the issue without further delay.
Azizi said laying of 34-kilometers long water pipeline from Khurram and Sarbagh districts to Aybak city had been started, which would help tackle the water shortage in the provincial capital.
He informed water pipeline project would be completed in a couple of years and the residents of Aybak would be getting hygienic water.
He said tangible efforts had been made to improve the vital irrigation system and the long-demanded Abkali water dam between Hazrat Sultan and Ruyi Duab districts was being constructed.
Makhdoom Abdul Hai Hakim, assistance of education department said 50 schools out of a total 290 did not have infrastructure.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News during the current fiscal year; as many as 13 schools would be provided buildings following financial assistance by the Swedish Committee.
Residents of the province had been suffering due to lack of health facilities and shortage of drinking water.
Sher Mohammad, a resident of Aybak city told Pajhwok Afghan News the rehabilitation process was going smoothly, however there were few areas, which were in urgent need of development projects.
He underlined options were needed to be explored to step up the ongoing rehabilitation activities elsewhere in the province by constricting roads and removing the water shortage issues, which would go a long way to win the greater favor and support of the people.
