LASHKARGAH (PAN): The last few years saw completion of multiple development projects in southern Helmand province, officials said.
Mohammad Lal Ahmadi, provincial chief of staff told Pajhwok Afghan News that more than 200 kilometers roads have been paved in Lashkargah, the provincial capital. 
With the same breath, he went on to say that another road, which is 280- kilometers long and linking various districts have been constructed while work on other roads are underway.
As many as 42- kilometers Herat- Kabul ring road and another 35-kilometers road from the same area leading to Sangin district has also been constructed.
Ahmadi said that so far 20- kilometers of the 33- kilomteres Sangin- Kajaki road have been constructed. Similarly, at least 11- kilometers Gresh- Lashkargah road of a total of 44-kilometers have been paved.
He noted that two more roads leading to Marja and Nava districts have been paved, which would help facilitate masses of the region.
Largely viewed as one of the mega project, he said the Boust Airport has started operations. Though the airport is being used for domestic flights, efforts are on to extend the airport in an attempt to be used for foreign flights.
More buildings have been constructed including the police headquarters, Afghan National Army (ANA), justice, rural rehabilitation, revenue department, agriculture, municipality, attorney office, courts in districts, and capital, he added.
He said that measures are taken to beautify the city and address the administrative problems.
“Part of development, buildings of schools and a number of mosques have been built,” said the provincial chief of staff.
He noted that the vital agro sector moving ahead with tandem following construction of protective walls and agro forms while a number of water canals have also been rehabilitated.
Despite achieving progress in multi-dimensional sectors, there are still some hurdles, which are being addressed, he added.
Mayor of Lashkargah Mohammad Fazil Sapai expressed satisfaction by saying that his city saw fast-paced development during the last eleven years such as construction of 10 parks and 24 water storage facilities.
In addition, he said that 175 garbage baskets are placed in various parts of the city with ensuring provision of 95 vehicles to keep the capital city clean.
Education Director Mohammad Nasim Sapai said that 130 out of 360 schools have buildings, saying that they have repaired buildings of some schools, adding that 80 other schools got new buildings.
He said that financial assistance for most of the buildings was extended by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Denmark, and Britain. 
In a greater development, Director Public Health Dr. Enayatullah Ghafari said 41 healthcare centres have been built over the past few years in the province. 
Earlier, the province has seven healthcare centres including the Boust Hospital while those number have now surged to dozens, he added.
“There are 63 health clinics in Lashakargah city and other districts with 48 of them are hired in rented buildings,” Ghafari informed.
Sardar Mohammad, a resident of Lashkargah city said that earlier he had no idea at all what paved roads mean but now he witnessed for his own the buildings of roads in Helmand.
He said that the development works could not be done on the same scale the way the world donated wholeheartedly.
