FAIZABAD (PAN): The vital education elsehwere in Badakhshan is facing mutliple hurldles with most of the schools have no buildings facilities.
However, strength of the students are increasing with every educational session. Due to lack of building of schools, students are forced to study under the open sky.
Badakhshan Governor Shah Walli-ul-Lah Adib says buildings of more than hundreds schools have been constructed during the three years following assistance extended by the private sector.
He went on to say that the construction of school buildings helps thousands of students to continue study under proper roof.
He informed that as many as 50 buildings for schools in the rural and
frontier areas of the province had been completed with the help of Central Asian Organizations.
Badakhshan has total of 650 schools out of which 225 are high, 189 are intermediate and the rest are primary schools where
329,000 students are being imparted education by 20,000 teachers, he said, adding as many as 250 schools have still no buildings where students are forced to study under open sky.
Shgofa, a student studying under open sky urged the government to address help resolve problems of the vital education sector.
Earlier, the education authorities talked about tangible improvement in education sector comparing to the past saying that buildings of several schools have been constructed while construction work on some schools’ buildings are underway.
Giving minute details, Esmatullah Sharqi, assistant of provincial education department said that as many as 300 schools were functioning in the province a decade ago, although, adding its number has now been doubled.
According to him, the construction of 40 schools is underway in the current year and will be ready for use soon.
Moreover, 32 Dar-ul-Ulom, three pedagogical institutes, two private schools, a gynecologist school and intermediate medical school are also functioning providing education services in the province.
In addition, thousands of literacy courses for girls and boys have been functioning in the province as well, he said, adding NGOs, culturists and Provincial Education Department have extended financial assistance for literacy courses in the province.
Problems and Developments:
Abdul Maroof Rasikh, spokesman of Badakhshan Governor says students of the province have great love for education and a single school in Badakhsha province is not reported to be closed down.
He did not rule out presence of Taliban in parts of the province, adding militants were not posing greater threat to education in the province.
The education authorities are in close coordination with local authorities and are prepared to retaliate in case of any act against education sector.
The governor spokesman said lack of professional teachers were major problmes of education department, adding the problme would be tackled with the efforts of provincial civil services and administrative reform department.
Officials of education department said lack of textbooks was yet another pressing problme, which was needed to be resolved without further delay.
Moreover, the absence of electricity was causing heavy losses to the the vital education sector in the province.
“Computers and printers have been distributed among schools, however, students cannot utilize them due to non-existence of electricity.”
Khisro Nazari, head of Badakhshan University said that agriculture, sharia, education, literature economic faculty are functioning in the university where half of the students are female students.
 
He said new building of Badakhshan University had been constructed following financial assistance extended by the government and non-government organization except the education faculty which situated in the old city of Faizabad.
He said that Umar Zakhilwal, Finance Minister in his visit to Bakakhshan province had ordered the provincial head of finance department to allocate 1$ million for the construction of law and social sciences faculties in Badakhshan University.
In addition to a state-run university in Badakhsha province, a private sector university has also providing higher education services to hundreds of youth in the province.
Head of Badakhshan University said problems of education sector were decreasing by each passing day.

Inaytullah, a resident of Faizabad city and student of 12th said education sector had considerably improved as compared to the past.
He said teachers were more professional comparatively, adding law and order situation had been improved and students including boys and girls were being imparted education in peaceful environment.
He demanded the education authorities to work building teachers’ progessional skills and hire professional teachers in education sector.
Teachers and Students:
Angizah, a student at girls high school says violation of discipline is a major issue in schools of far-flung areas where attendance is not taken serious for weeks, although it is satisfactory in schools of provincial capital.
He said discipline was being observed strictly in schools of the provincial capital schools, adding attendance was frequently ignored in schools of far-flung areas, which left negative impact on students.
Najiba, another student of girls high school indicated nonexistence of electricity was yet another serious problem. She said students could not attend computer and laboratory classes due to absence of electricity.
She demanded provision of electricity and building of entire infrastructure in education sector, adding the concern department should strive hard to resolve problems being faced by the vital sector.
“The education department launches various programs to educate illiterate people of the province. It is noticed that 25% of Baddakhshan population is educated,” officials of education department said.
