FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): A Wolesi Jirga hopeful from western Farah province may be released from prison in a couple days after spending about seven months in jail in a fraud case.

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Thursday said Wolesi Jirga candidates, if found linked to illegal militias, would be removed from the candidate list.

 

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A female Wolesi Jirga hopeful on Monday succumbed to the wounds she suffered in a traffic accident in northwestern Badghis province, an official said.

 

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chairman of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) said Saturday a committee had been formed to investigate officials allegedly involved fraud and rigging in the April elections.

Addressing a press conference, Abdul Sattar Sadaat said, the newly-formed committee would be headed by Nader Mohseni and other IECC officials.

The committee would investigate the officials and personnel from both the IECC and the Independent Election Commission (IEC). He pledged legal action would be taken against those proved guilty.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The election watchdog chief on Tuesday said the Parliament had no authority to summon election officials and that he had no intension to appear before the upper house.

Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) Chairman Abdul Sattar Sadat and some other officials of the watchdog are currently on a visit to the United States.

Two days ago, the Meshrano Jirga summoned officials of the two election bodies to brief lawmakers about fraud allegations raised by losing provincial council candidates.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Holding two elections simultaneously has proven a failure in Afghanistan, the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) chief said on Thursday.

Abdul Sattar Sadat said two simultaneous elections should not be repeated in future in order to prevent large-scale rigging.

He told reporters in Kabul fraud incidents would have been less if the presidential and provincial council (PC) elections had been conducted separately.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Thursday said it had addressed all complaints from provincial council candidates and would share its final decision with the Independent Election Commission (IEC) later in the day.

IECC spokesman Mohammad Nader Mohsini told Pajhwok Afghan News the final results from the provincial council elections would be sent to the IEC office on Thursday afternoon.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Complaints about the provincial council elections held in early April would be addressed soon, the electoral watchdog said on Monday -- a day after the presidential vote result was unveiled.

As many as 458 candidates, including 97 women, were declared successful in the preliminary results from the provincial polls, announced by the Independent Election Commission on May 20.

Final results were to be unveiled on June 17, but their announcement was delayed by the presidential election deadlock and the subsequent nationwide vote audit.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Thursday decided to blacklist the officials who were found involved in rigging the polls.

IECC Chairman Abdul Sattar Sadat told reporters in Kabul that some officials had been identified favouring one candidate or the other in the June 14 second round of the election.

He said investigations would be launched against the permanent and contract employees of the commissions to determine whether or not they were involved in election fraud.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC), after addressing complaints from the presidential runners, on Thursday conveyed its decision to the poll panel.

Abdul Sattar Sadat, the watchdog’s chairman, told a news conference in Kabul the Independent Election Commission (IEC), could challenge the decision within 24 hours of its receipt.
