KABUL (PAN): Voting for the historic presidential and provincial council elections was delayed by technical problems at four polling centres in Kabul, residents complained on Thursday.

GHOR (PAN): Almost a hundred polling stations of about 250 polling stations in western Ghor province opened without a police presence on Thursday, officials said.

HERAT CITY (PAN): Men and women are streaming to polling stations to elect a president for the next five years and hundreds of provincial council members in western Herat province, bordering Iran.

JALALABAD/ASADABAD (PAN): Several polling centres in eastern Kunar and Nuristan provinces could not be opened due to security problems, election officials said on Thursday.

ASADABAD (PAN): Nine polling centres in Chapa Dara district of eastern Kunar province opened, albeit behind schedule, as a result of hectic efforts by tribal elders.

KHOSTCITY (PAN): "I sell fresh fruits in market. I voted to help establish a fair system in the country," says Askar Muhammad, the first person exercising his franchise at a polling station in the capital of southeastern Khost province.

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Voter turnout is picking up in the troubled southern province of Kandahar, two hours after polling stations opened.
