3 election workers for Abdullah killed in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Three election workers for presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah were shot dead by suspected insurgents in the Almar district of northern Faryab province, an official said.
The three were returning from a memorial service for late vice-president Mohammad Qasim Fahim to Maimana, the provincial capital, when attacked, Abdul Qadir Qaderi, the Pashtun Kot district chief, said.
He said the victims were tribal elders and residents of the Kaptimarashka area of Pashtun Kot district.
Marshal Fahim passed away on Sunday due to heart attack and he was laid to rest on Tuesday in Kabul.
Qaderi said the election workers were travelling on the road between Pashtun Kot and Almar district when Taliban intercepted their vehicle in the Kormor Tepa area and shot them dead on the spot.
Dr. Abdullah’s campaign office in Maimana confirmed that the victims were members of their campaign team.
On Feb. 1 two election campaigners for Abdullah were shot dead in the western city of Herat. Abdullah was the runner-up in the disputed election of 2009 to President Karzai, who cannot stand this time.
