1 – Maimana City:
Maimana is known as the capital city of the province, Faryab comprised 14 administrative units including Pashtonkot, Almar, Qaisar, Khwaja Sabz Posh, ShireenTagab, Doulat Abad, Bilcharagh, Girziwan, Kohistanat, Ghormach, Andkhoi, Qurghan and Khancharak.  
Considered as one of the historic cities of the country, Maimana city was called Yahodia, and Nisaya in the past.
Measuring 25 meters height, Maimana city has earthen hills with a grand fort constructed during Alexander, the great, which depicted ancient history of the city. Unfortunately, the fort was destroyed in 1313.
The city has severe and normal weathers where agriculture lands were being irrigated through Sarhouse Dam, originating from south of Pashton Kot district.
Uzbek, Tajik, Aimaq, Sadat, Pashton, Hazara, Turkman and Hazara are living in Maimana city.
Residents of the province enjoy 24- hours electricity imported from Turkmenistan with 23 kilometers roads within the city had been asphalted. Besides Afghan-Turk Hospital, another 50-bed hospital and a 20-bed drugs rehabilitation centre have also been made functional in the province.
Construction work on 50-bed hospital and another 100-bed hospital at a cost of over $3.5 million was under progress. Hundreds of students including girls were getting education in the university, teacher training college, with fast-growing cultural, social and academic institutions.   
2 – Pashtonkot District:
Located south of Maimana city, Pashtonkot is considered one of the populated districts of the province.
Kohistanat district is located in its south, Turkmenistan in north, in west bordered with Arab Aqsai and Mian Dara areas of Almar district, with Bilcharagh district is situated in its east.
With a good educational environment, 93 schools are operational in the district with 24-hours electricity in areas close to the district headquarters. Southern and eastern parts of the province have cold weather but southern and northern localities have hot weather.
Agriculture, livestock and gardening are the main sources of revenue generation of the residents. Grapes, apples, figs, apricot, melon, water melon, vegetables such as tomato, onion, potato, bean, squash, and carrot were among the vast producing fresh fruits and vegetables of the town.
3 – Khwaja Sabz Posh District:
The district is located 25- kilometers northeast of Maimana city on Maimana- Jawzjan Highway. The district capital was known as Juma Bazar with enhanced security parameters.
The population of the town touches the figures of 80,000 individuals with Uzbek, Arab, Pashtun, Turkmen and Maghol reside in the town. Residents of the district have access to 24 hours electricity with many students was getting education in schools and seminaries.
4 – ShireenTagab District:
Located 50 kilometers northeast of the capital city on Maimana-Jawzjan Highway, the capital of the district was known as Faiz Abad with 143 villages.
With improved security, 41 schools, a Dar-ul-Hifaz and a teacher training college were operational in the district. Residents of the town get advantage of 24-hours electricity facility where a 20- bed hospital has started delivering health facilities.
A radio channel, two magazines and a youth association were also functioning serving the masses.
There are a mega mine of chalk and sulfur in Astana Baba area of ShireenTagab district. A carpet weaving profession with national and international popularity has bolstered. It merits mention that six meters carpet is sold at the rate of $ 1,500. Additionally, red raisin, wheat and melon are main agriculture products of the town.
5 – Daulat Abad District:
Daulat Abad is located 62- kilometers northeast of Maimana city along Maimana Highway.
The district in south shares border with Khwaja Sabz Posh district, in north with Qurmaqul district while in east with Lailee desert and Jawzjan province.
Turkmenistan is situated in its west with Pashtonkot district lies in its southwest. Uzbek, Pashtun and Turkmen reside side by side in the province.
Agriculture, livestock and carpet weaving are flourishing occupation of the residents of the district with a mega mine of salt. Good educational and health services are available in the district, but cultural activities have been on the downtrend as compared to other parts of the province.
The town is known as hot locality of the province but underground water are saline because of existence of salt mine. With no agriculture water, agriculture farms in the district are being irrigated through the water of floods in spring season.
Qurmqul District:
Qurmqul is located 100- kilometers on Maimana-Jawzjan Highway. Daulat Abad is located in its south, Qurghan and Andkhoi districts are situated in its north. The district shares border with Lilee desert and salt mine in east and in west shares border with Turkmenistan.
Turkmen, Pashtun and Uzbek tribes reside in the district. The district has vast hills and sands. The economy of the residents depends on agriculture and carpet weaving occupations.
More than 60 % men and women are associated with the occupation of carpet weaving. Though the district is in grip of deteriorating security, residents have access to electricity, education and health services.
8 – Qurghan District:
 
Qurghan is one of the remote districts of the province. It shares border with Qurumqul district in south, in west with Turkmenistan, in north with Aqian port.
 
The district has bolstered good security but most of the residents have complained of suffering from low level of education and healthcare services. Twenty-four hours electricity facilities have been made available to the residents who are mainly associated with the occupation of agriculture and carpet weaving.
 
9 – AndKhoi District:
 
Andkhoi is located 126-kilometers northeast of the provincial capital, sharing a long border with neighboring Turkmenistan.
 
Located on Silk Route, Lailee desert is situated in its south, Qurmaqul and Qurghan districts in its southwest while the district shares border with Turkmenistan in the north and with Khanchar Bag district in east.
 
The Aqina port, linking Afghanistan with Asia, Europe, United Arabic Emirate through Turkmenistan, is located 36-kilometers from the district.
 
Hundreds of transit vehicles transport commercial goods through the port to and out of the country on daily basis. More than 2.2 billion afghanis revenues were achieved through this port in 2012.
 
Asphalting work of Aqina-Andkhoi road was completed at a cost of $ 24 million with initial work on a railway track, connecting Turkmenistan through Afghanistan with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan has been launched. The residents were getting advantage of good economic opportunities as compared to other parts of the province.
 
Having international popularity, 65 % people of the district are associated with the occupation of carpet weaving, while three mega reserves of gas had recently been detected by the ministry of mines in Andkhoi and Sancharak districts.
 
10 – Khancharak District:
 
Khancharak is located 140- kilometers of Maimana city. It shares border with Turkmenistan in north and east, in south and southeast with Khumab and Khwaja Do Koh districts of Jawzjan province while Andkhoi district is situated in its southwest.
 
Turkmen and Uzbek tribes reside in the town who are associated with the occupation of agriculture and livestock.
 
Social, cultural activities and the level of educational and health care services are not satisfactory where the district headquarters is still located in a hired building. The Aqina port is located in the district but its entire officials activities are carried out through Andkhoi district.
 
11 – Bilcharagh District:
 
Located 55-kilometers southeast of Maimana city, many parts of Bilcharagh are occupied by mountains and hills. Sayad district of Sar-i-Pul is situated in its east, Darz Aab district of Jawzjan lies in its northeast while Garziwan district of Jawzjan is located in its south. 
 
Pashtonkot district is located in its west and Khwaja Sabz Posht district is situated in its north. Agriculture and livestock are main sources of revenue of the residents.
 
The district has small agriculture land where agro activities are cultivation depends on rain-fed lands. Some parts of the district are covered by trees of pistachio and almond.
 
The coal and iron mines of are located in Qurchi and Kolia parts of the town where education and health sectors got progress as compared to the past few years.
 
12 – Garzivan District:
 
Known as seven Tagab Garzivan, it is located 80-kilometers south of the provincial capital with the district capital called Sarchakan. Kohistanat district of Sar-i-Pul is located in its east, in south bordered with the Kohistanat district of Faryab province while Bilcharagh district is located its north and Pashton Kot district lies in its west.
 
Known as a populated district of the province, Garzivan is considered as coldest part of the province.
 
A uranium mine is located in Khwaja Ghar area of the district. The green mountains, valleys and hills contributed considerably to the natural beauty of the district. Agriculture and livestock are the main sources occupation of the dwellers.
 
13 – Kohistanat District:
 
Kohistanat is located 125- kilometers south of Maimana city with the district capital is called Lolash.
Charsada district of Ghor provinces is located in its south, Kohistanat district of Sar-i-Pul in its east, in north shares borders with Garzivan and Pashton Kot districts as well as Jowand district of Badghis province lies in its west.
 
Being a cold part of the province, the area remains under heavy snowfall in winter, leaving linking routs of the town with other parts of the province cut off for six long months.
 
Population of the province touches the figure of 150,000 individuals with residents is associated with the occupation of agriculture and livestock.
 
Wheat harvests yielded bumper crops in the district. The district served as a strong sanctuary of Mujahideen against the soviet troops and the Taliban. Kohistanat has low level of cultural and social activities with no hospital, paved roads and potable water.
 
14 – Almar District:
 
Almar is located 26- kilometers west of the provincial capital on Herat- Maimana Highway. Kohistanat district is located in its south, Pashton Kot in its southeast while it shares border with Qaisar district in its west.
 
Turkmenistan lies in its north and Khwaja Musa district of Pashton Kot district are situated in its northeast.
 
Population of the district is estimated at around 120,000 individuals. Many parts of the town have been occupied by mountains and earthen hills, offering good grazing for nomad families.
 
Thousands of acres of land of the district are experiencing lack of irrigation water.
 
Facing shortage of potable water, many deep wells have been dug recently under the National Solidarity Program (NSP) where construction work on a water dyke, located 5- kilometers south of district headquarters, is in progress at a cost of $ 54 million.
 
Funded by Ministry of Energy and Water, as many as 30, 000 hectors of land would come under irrigation once the project was completed.
 
Having various colors, there are a number of mines of marbles in the town, which are being used in construction of buildings.
 
Comprising hot weather in summer and cold in winter, grapes, black raisin and melon of the district are found tasty with a countrywide reputation.
 
Almar is a volatile part of the province where armed clashes and heavy presence of Taliban militants have brought development activities to a halt. All schools in the district are opened but the vital education sector could not witness the progress expected by the residents.
