Weesa orders security boost on highways, borders

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): The Kandahar governor on Wednesday directed security organs to pay greater heed to security on highways and borders.
Dr. Toryalai Weesa, addressing a weekly meeting on law and order at his office, praised Kandahar-based security institutions’ efforts.
However, he called for boosting security on highways and borders. Roads leading from Kandahar to Kabul, Helmand, Herat and Spin Boldak are strategically important highways.
About preparations for next year’s presidential vote, the governor noted that voter registration process had recently gained momentum. He urged election officials to open more offices at military bases for security personnel.
Participants suggested more attention should be paid to Afghan Local Police personnel’s salaries and equipment in order to improve security in Ghorak and Mianishin districts.
