190 weapons surrendered to DIAG

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Intelligence agents in southern Kandahar province on Tuesday turned in 190 weapons to the Disarmament of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG).
Deputy Governor Abdul Qayyum Patyal, addressing a ceremony for the arms handover, praised the intelligence personnel for recovering the weapons and thereby by controlling possible violence.
DIAG official Gen. Abdul Qayyum Popal said the weapons, seized during operations over the past few months, would be added to arms depots.
Some of the weapons would be repaired and handed over to the Afghan army, Popal said, adding a large quantity of arms had been surrendered to the programme since its inception.
